Carrie is a pretty filet style baby blanket that would be a lovely gift for anyone to receive. I also have included the instructions for not one but THREE borders!

Who doesn’t love a blanket border?

Finished measurements are approx. 40×51” and will use up to 1300m of DK with a 4mm hook.

I love this yarn as a go to for baby blankets it has a wide range of colours and is super soft and squishy

Notes

There is always a total of 119 stitches

Chain 3 or 4 at the beginning of a row counts as a DC or DC + 1 chain

When beginning a new round after a CH4 row, be careful to place your stitch in the correct place as this CH4 counted as a stitch and a chain.  If it is in the incorrect place this will result in misplaced stitches and the design will not appear correctly.

For butterfly rounds, when the instruction is given to DC in each stitch this also includes the chains in both the chain 3 and the chain 2.  Work into the chain stitch, not the chain space.  For example the first chain stitch of the chain 3 will have a DC and the last chain stitch of the 2nd set of chain 3 will also have a DC.

When creating the butterflies, the SL ST, SC and LDC from each corresponding round will all be worked into the same ST.  The SC will be worked over the SL ST.  The LDC will be worked over the SC and SL ST.

When the next stitches to be worked into are part of a CH1, CH2, or CH3, work all stitches into the chain stitches not the chain spaces.

Information inside brackets is to be repeated.

It is helpful to keep the chains of the butterfly (CH2 and CH3) loose.  This will make it easier to work into the chains in the following rounds.

Stitch Guide

Long Double Crochet – yarn over, insert hook into indicated stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop to the same height as the double crochets on the same Round, yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through two loops.

Picot is created by making CH 3. Then slip stitch back into the base stitch creating a little bobble.

Row 87: CH3, DC across. Do not turn.  (119 DC)

Now we will be working on adding the border.

Do not turn throughout

All borders

Round 1: CH 2 (Counts as a HDC) 2HDC in the same ST to create a corner. *Work 173HDC evenly along the side to next corner 3 HDC into corner. Work 117 HDC across the bottom edge of the blanket, (3HDC) into the last stitch to create a corner,  work 173HDC evenly along the side to next corner 3 HDC into corner, Work 117 HDC across the top edge of the blanket, join with a SL ST to top of CH2

When you are working down the sides of the blanket you will be working into the double crochet or ch3  at the edge of the row instead of the top of the stitch. The first row already has one hdc from the corner, so place one hdc there, then place two hdc in each dc going down the side of your blanket.

Rounds 2 to 3 are worked in BLO. The corner 3 stitches are not worked in the back loop.

Rounds 2-3: SL ST to 2nd HDC of 3rd HDC group, CH1, *3 HDC create a corner, HDC in BLO to end*.  Repeat * to * around. SL ST to first HDC to join.
